When Cael’s best friend stabs the prince in the middle of the Autumn Festival, he is arrested as a conspirator and thrown in jail for questioning. Escaping during a violent storm, and on the run in a locked-down city, he’s horrified to find flames bursting from his skin, as a power he didn’t know he had, bubbles to the surface.
Meanwhile, Jair, a travelling sorcerer who witnessed the attack on the prince, discovers a parasite embedded in the assassin’s mind, controlling his actions. But this is no ordinary creature. This is sorcery.
As the country falls into civil war around them, their paths converge, as Cael desperately searches for a way to control the power growing inside him. Whilst Jair attempts to track down whoever, or whatever, is behind the parasite, and most importantly, to discover why they wanted the prince dead.
